When applying to b-school, getting into your preferred choice is only 50% of the problem. The other half is figuring out how you will fund the colossal fee of your MBA.

Step forward the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin, which is offering a slew of scholarships for the academic year 2010-2011. As an increasing number of businesses continue to outsource, merge and operate in new territories, understanding diverse cultures is key to attracting contracts.

The MBA at ESMT aims to address these challenges through the structure of its program placing an emphasis on faculty and group interaction as well as diversity.

“The current full-time MBA class at ESMT is made up of participants from 21 countries,” says Nick Barniville, Director of MBA Programs. “Our aim is to further increase this diversity.”

Most of ESMT’s scholarships are awarded according to region. Applicants from the Americas, Central Europe and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia have the chance of receiving “merit-based partial scholarships.”

ESMT’s commitment to diversity is not solely based on geographic location. The school is offering two full scholarships to female candidates valued at €38,000 each, the total fee for a full-time MBA.

“We already have 35% women in the MBA class, and we are committed to doing everything we can to further increase this figure,” adds Barniville. Financial support also comes in the form of the school’s new Academic Excellence Scholarship. This award will be given to an “exceptional applicant” with a GMAT score of over 700.

The cherry on ESMT’s scholarship cake is the Corporate Fellowship Program. Open to full-time MBAs, the program not only offers you a full scholarship but also includes internship opportunities and mentoring from one of ESMT’s founding companies after graduation- easily making you the envy of your classmates.

For the first time this year, the school will allocate “some scholarship funding” to self-financed students on the ESMT Executive MBA program commencing October 2010. The tuition fee for the EMBA is €57,000.

The MBA and EMBA are both taught in English. Application deadlines are mid-November 2010 for full-time MBA beginning January 2011 and August 2010 for Executive MBA beginning October 2010.

I always think schools should make it as clear as possible to the applicants on how many scholarships (and how much) are are giving each year. I know for some you got to dig deep to find out.
