Avid horse-rider Cédric Kubicki tells us why he swapped riding for the rigours of the Master in Finance at ESADE.

The Belgium-born Swiss resident joined the programme, aimed at recent graduates, seeking to complement his initial degree with in-depth knowledge of world finance.

Although he had offers from two other top European universities, he was persuaded by ESADE’s year-long programme. Along with the school’s impressive ranking, the year-long Master seemed ideal for someone eager to take in as many life experiences as possible and them move swiftly into the job market!

ESADE’s Master in Finance aims to give recent graduates a major boost in their financial careers. During the course, students gain in-depth understanding of the fundamental tools used in international finance and develop their ability to build and analyze financial models.

Cédric has been on the programme since September 2011 and has found the programme very intellectually stimulating so far! One recent thrill was an exciting project involving analysis of companies’ performances from both buyer and seller perspectives. It involved quite a lot of study and the project took up a large proportion of Cédric’s time but “it’s the nature of finance; this steep learning curve prepares you for what you’ll meet out there”.

Cédric believes that the Master will enable him to embark on a career in asset management as it complements his Economics undergraduate degree and sets him apart from the crowd.

He has already interned for a pension fund in Switzerland where he researched asset strategy. He is sure that a smaller firm environment suits his personality and is eager to begin his career in a boutique firm.

ESADE’s career services have been useful in providing information on the job application process within the European financial services industry: “I have used them to review my CV and cover letters and to ask questions about applications….there is one person for dedicated for MSc Finance queries,” he says.

He concedes that the new year won’t be as fast-paced once he has secured a permanent job. After that, he intends to spend his spare time exploring the Spanish coastline and horse-riding again. Perhaps it’s day-dreaming of horseback riding along the beach that gets him through those intense study sessions!

I have a friend at ESADE. She says the Master students are good looking and friendly...when they aren't geeking out over some silly numbers. I see where she was going with this;)
