With offices in more than 50 countries, Accenture is known for being the world’s largest consulting firm. It has been listed in Fortune magazine's “100 Best Companies to Work For” for four consecutive years: the list centres on firms with the best workplace culture and talent initiatives.
In a report released this month by industry research firm IDC MarketScape, it was also named a global leader in providing business consulting, IT consulting, systems integration, IT outsourcing, and managed services to oil and gas companies.
John Campagnino is Senior Director of Global Talent Acquisition at Accenture, based in New York City. He has 10 years of experience under his belt, and in this Inside view he tells us about Accenture’s favourite business school fand why MBA graduates remain a “good return on investment”.
What's your role at Accenture and how long have you been there?
I joined Accenture in 1995 and lead talent acquisition globally. I’m responsible for new hires in the more than 50 countries where Accenture has operations.
Which regions are you most actively hiring in?
Currently, we have 257,000 employees. We work in more than 120 countries and across a variety of industries, so we’re actively hiring in many of our global geographies. We also have an active program to recruit former military personnel who are coming home after their service.
How much weight does an MBA hold when applying to Accenture?
We’ve found that MBA talent is a good return on investment. We see strong retention and promotion rates among joiners who have their MBA. They bring a broad business view, advanced time management skills, strong team working, and an increased ability to identify business problems and offer reachable solutions – all qualities that come with the added experience of getting an MBA.
Do you hire from specific MBA programs?
We work consistently with Wharton, Duke, Cornell, Kellogg and Booth as well as internationally with INSEAD France and INSEAD Singapore among others. We’ve found these types of programs tend to produce MBA graduates with the level of cross functional skills and business acumen that we need here at Accenture.
What's a typical starting salary for an MBA grad at Accenture and what role might they be doing?
Starting salaries for MBA graduates are based on a number of factors including the prospective position and relevant prior work experience across industries. MBA graduates can apply for a position in a variety of career paths within management consulting or technology.
What advice would you give to current business students hoping to work in technology consulting?
At Accenture, we look for people who can communicate effectively and work well on teams. For current MBA students, it’s important to hone in on the skills that will make you successful in your career. To work in consulting, a professional needs to be able to work effectively on cross-functional and cross-border teams, be a very capable business operator, work effectively with clients, and possess strong leadership potential.
