李帆 Frank Li is studying an MBA at SAIF in Shanghai, China. He studied for a BA in Communication Engineering at Zhejiang University and a Masters degree in Software Engineering in Peking University. He then worked in IBM as an engineer for over four years. He has secured an internship at Guotai Junan Securitites Assests Management, one of the largest investment banks in Shanghai, thanks to China!

Why did you decide to study an MBA at SAIF?
In 2007, I began to invest in Chinese A share market and found I was very interested in the investment market. I wanted to be a professional investor and SAIF MBA program is one of the best, which focus on finance in China: So I chose SAIF. I started in September 2012 and I finish in June 2014.

What's the most valuable thing you've learned so far?

Since I had an engineering background before I joined SAIF, the most valuable thing to me is knowledge of finance areas like coporate finance, accounting and the method and skills about foundatmental analysis.

You have secured an internship at Guotai Junan Securitites Assests Management - how did the team at SAIF help you?

The team from SAIF CDC delievered many lectures about soft skills for seeking an internship, and also provided me with knowledge about different sector in the finance area. This helped me a lot when I applied for the internship position in Guotai Junan Securities Assests Management.

I work in the Equity Research Department of GTJA Securities Assests Management. The most difficult part of the interview process is about the knowledge and ability to do equity-research with some detailed questions.

How important do you think internships are in the career development of MBA students?

It is very important, especially in the finance area. Most of the asset management companies and funds hire people through internship programs. Some of the students can get a return offer after their internship. Almost everybody can benefit from internships, since they can learn new things which will help them in the job hunting process.

What's the best thing about working in Shanghai?

There are always opportunities if you work hard enough!

Shanghai is currently beating other areas of mainland China in the race to set up free trade zones, as announced by the Government in July - how do you think free trade zones will affect the economy?

It will speed up the process of the construction of Shanghai International Finance Center and Shipping Center. That also means more opportunites for us.

What are your plans for the future?

I will focus on the investment of the Secondary Market and I hope I could become a fund manager a few years later.
