Varsity Rowing Chinese Style At MBA Dragon Boat Race
Could boat races between top Chinese schools become as big as in the UK and the US?
On May 22, with the Chinese traditional Dragon Boat Festival approaching, the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) MBA was invited to join the MBA Dragon Boat Race of Shanghai Universities 2011.
The race was hosted by the MBA Association of East China University of Science and Technology in their Fengxian Campus, just outside Shanghai.
Collegiate boat race, a mixture of strength, teamwork spirit and nature, is a traditional athletic competition first contested between Cambridge and Oxford. The annual Harvard–Yale Regatta has also carried on for more than a century. Over the last ten years in China, more and more rowing races between universities have been taking place.
There were 10 teams competing in the 500-meter Dragon Boat Race including those from Fudan University, Tongji University and international students from East China University of Science and Technology. A total of 300 people attended the ceremony. SAIF rowers finished the first with only one minute and five seconds in the first time trial and ranked second only to Fudan University in the final ranking round.
This is SAIF's second appearance among Shanghai MBA peers since the Sunshine Cup Sports Game of Shanghai Universities 2010. These sports games not only demonstrate the athletic prowess of MBA students but also consolidate the bond between business schools for friendship and deeper exchanges.
