How many non-VC-backed start-ups can realy afford office space in London's Silicon Roundabout tech hub?! We loved this idea of creating a genuinely affordable workspace for London entrepreneurs. Now cash-strapped startups can escape squatting in Starbucks Cafes and drinking unhealthy amounts of caffeine for this new location in East London....

A former East London Edwardian Church turned art gallery and recording studio, witnessing the likes of Noah and the Whale and the Arctic Monkeys, is now a shared workspace for entrepreneurs and start-ups.

The site is based near London Fields/Bethnal Green and run by Bathtub 2 Boardroom, a registered charity that is dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and relieving unemployment across the UK, starting in London. Bathtub 2 Boardroom is one of only a handful of charities in the UK focused on entrepreneurs and start-ups and this new site is planned to be the first of a series in London and beyond – such as Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

As a charity, Bathtub 2 Boardroom is offering desk space at a discounted rate compared to the typical start-up 'incubators' of Shoreditch, whilst also offering a full range of typical (and somewhat less typical!) services – including a dedicated community manager, fibre optic high-speed broadband, private meeting room, phone booth, chill-out work areas, a viewing balcony for break-out meetings, full kitchen, sitting room (with pinball machine and bar!), two bathrooms, a shower, bike storage space, and kayaks for meetings on the canal! This space is a home for businesses, as opposed to just an office.

There's already been interest from a range of start-ups, ranging from online stores, to dating apps, to translators to small social enterprises. The site is planned to open on the 11 th June 2012 and with only around 35 desks, demand has already been extremely high. Those interested in the handful of desks remaining can contact the Bathtub 2 Boardroom team.
