SDA Bocconi MBA Alumni On Executive Board Of The European Central Bank
The European Central Bank in Frankfurt, Germany
SDA Bocconi MBA alumni Jörg Asmussen has recently been appointed office on the European Central Bank Board and will take his position at the beginning of 2012.
Jörg Asmussen is currently the Deputy Finance Minister of Germany. He clearly had political ambitions for many years, stating that he had taken an MBA to gain more management skills. When paired with his macroeconomic knowledge gained at his undergraduate studies at The University of Giessen and The University of Bonn would allow him to be comfortable in the role of public office.
Jörg Asmussen attained his MBA from SDA Bocconi in 1992. Former Director of the MBA program, Luigi Tava said that the early 90s saw SDA Bocconi making its MBA international. “A German student choosing to do an MBA in Italy represented a significant openness towards credibility, in addition to demonstrating a particularly open attitude.”
Severino Salvemini who was a faculty member at the time remembers Jörg Asmussen as “a very diligent student who was particularly fond of Italy.” His cohort used adjectives such as “serious” and “intelligent” to describe him, perfect attributes for such a important position on the European stage.
The European Central Bank is the institution of the EU that implements monetary policy of the euro area in accordance with the guidelines specified and decisions taken by the Governing Council. Its main objective is to maintain economic stability within the Eurozone by keeping inflation low. No mean task in the current economic climate.
