Amit Godara is currently studying for a dual degree: an MBA at EBS Business School in Germany and a Masters from MIT-Zaragoza Logistics Centre in Spain. He tells us why this is a great combination for an engineer looking for a business career.

The MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program is a unique partnership that brings together the supply chain interests of academic, industry and government. The program is linked to the development of the largest and most up-to-date logistics park in Europe.

EBS have partnered up with MIT-Zaragoza for a 21-month course that prepares their graduates for international managerial positions.

Amit, 29 was born in the city of Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Inspired by his father who is an engineer, he studied for a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Delhi College of Engineering. With over 75,000 applicants for only 200 places, there is fierce competition for a place at the Delhi College of Engineering.

As a Software Engineer Amit worked for CSC in Delhi and moved over to CSC in Bonn, Germany in 2007. “Here I continued working on different software programs. As I got promoted to senior engineer, I led a team of ten people in the customer relationship management Division to ensure improved quality of applications by implementing CAST, an Application Intelligence Software.”

The initial move to Germany was “challenging” and Amit had to contend with “a different culture, new place and stepping out of the comfort zone and of course the language barrier. Within a few weeks I realised that I had started adapting myself in Bonn.”

Leaving for Bonn was Amit’s first trip away from India and he found the people welcoming and has made some “great friends”. In fact he loved the atmosphere of the German city; “with a smaller population than India, great infrastructure and weather. It is here I learnt to be independent and experience life very differently from at home.”

Throughout Amit’s education and work experience he had developed a good understanding of most technology-related aspects of business, “but I had no formal exposure to management and areas such as finance, marketing and strategy.” The MBA was to help mold him into a corporate leader.

Having looked at EBS Business School, Manheim Business School and IIM (Calcutta), Amit chose EBS after a visit to the school in 2009.

On his visit he had a chance to meet alumni and EBS staff and appreciated the personal attention they gave him. "The manner in which they resolved my queries was very impressive.”

Other elements that attracted Amit to EBS Business School were the small batch size, the flexible curriculum, the Global Institute and the internationally experienced faculty.

Currently pursuing his dual degree from MIT Zaragoza in Spain, Amit will have an exchange semester at MIT, Boston, further building up a network of classmates from around the world.

As part of his MBA Amit has completed an internship at Brainnet, a leading, international consultancy firm in supply chain management. After he graduates he hopes to work in Europe and is currently in the process of finding appropriate placements. “Germany has been a home away from home. It has been a great learning and living experience.”

“My short-term goal is to be a business manager with multifaceted roles like business development, strategy planning and relationship management. I wish to get involved with diverse aspects of management such as business strategy, risk management and resource and people management.”
