Duke India Forum Lights Up Emerging Market Discussion

Fuqua School of Business hosts annual forum to promote subcontinent biz interest

Bustling streets, booming economy

Business leaders, Duke alumni, faculty and about 150 of Duke’s business students attended the second annual Duke India Business Forum in late March.

Building on the success of the school’s inaugural event in 2009, the forum provided a platform to share the participants’ perspectives on current India business issues.

Titled “India: Turning the Lens to Tomorrow”, speakers from various industries were brought in to lead discussions on popular topics in the world’s second largest growing economy such as health care, technology, marketing, finance and venture capital.

MBA Students at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business can rotate through study locations in India, Russia, Europe, China and the Middle East.

The students who were at the forum had just returned from two weeks in New Delhi where they took classes, met business leaders and learned about the Indian market.

Duke professor Debu Purohit said: “This is a student driven event. It is only as good as the students want it to be and they wanted to do it again.

“They wanted it to grow... and they want India to continue to be discussed as well."

Purohit, a marketing specialist, also feels schools are responsible for highlighting the “global interconnected world” and in doing so preparing its students to be future business leaders.

ESMT Executive Education in Top 15 in Europe

European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) has been ranked 13th in Europe and 27th in the world in this year’s Financial Times Executive Education rankings only eight years after its founding.

ESMT enters the prestigious ranking as the youngest business school in the Top 30 and the only school from Germany to make the list.

Professor Lars-Hendrik Röller, President of ESMT, said: "This is an important milestone for ESMT. As a newcomer from Germany, we are providing excellence in executive education and have established our open and customized programs as amongst the best in business."
