Speaking at the AFRICA ENERGY FORUM (AEF) in Paris, Enercap CEO Alexandre Vial, reminded energy experts and decisions-makers that over 120 million households in Africa do not have access to clean and safe lighting, and still rely on kerosene lamps and locally cut wood.
The Lyon-based carbon credit strategy and solution company released plans on its web site to bring 300 millions solar lamps to over 60 millions African households over the next 24 months, making the most ambitious light-based solar program in the world.
With its solar bulb program coined SunLighting Africa, Enercap already known in the carbon credit circuit for its partnership with Philips to provide electricity-saving and low-polluting CFL bulbs as part of a financing alternative for energy-strapped nations - promises to bring light for the first time to thousands of African villages not yet connected to national electricity grids.

what is the point of this story exactly? i visited the enercap website - seems excellent initiative! could not easily tell is it is a for-profit venture or not?
