After the completion of the initial analysis of the strategy project and surviving the Leadership Discovery Process simulation trip to strengthen practical leadership skills, it is May 16th today and the next phase of strategy project that is the Industry Analysis is up and running. Additionally, it is the last part of MBA so we have one elective every week. The electives are passing by quickly. It is 8 months since the program started but it still feels like it was just yesterday, believe me.

Today I am going to talk about the most awaited assignment of the Full Time MBA program, the strategy project. I will brief you about the strategy project and share my experience with strategy project so far.

Integrated In-Company Strategy Projects (ISP) is a unique feature of the CBS Full Time MBA program which allows you to use theories, concepts and models learnt throughout the course to solve a major strategic issue of a given firm. It provides a platform to develop holistic competencies bridging the gap between theory and practices in different functional disciplines which include but are not limited to finance, operations, and marketing. The strategy project is a learning process driven by educational endeavors.

The ISP process began with introductory seminar, which provides the academic guideline for execution of the strategy project. We were divided into groups according to our industry preference which was discussed with the administration before the start of the ISP. Each group is assigned an academic advisor who is a professor from CBS and external advisor who is an executive from the international business community. The two advisors will monitor and guide the group through subsequent processes throughout the project until final exam. The strategy project is divided into five stages:

Strategy Context Analysis
Industry Analysis
Company Analysis
Issue analysis
Implementation Analysis
Strategy project is the final challenge in the Full Time MBA program where I have the opportunity to apply newly gained knowledge to a real executive situation for an internationally oriented company which in return will commit its senior management’s time and resources. I am very excited about the strategy project and the experience I will gain from the whole process of analyzing a strategic issue of a company.

This is a stragegic project which brings together all of the skills which the participants have gathered over the year in real project, for an organisation with a genuine need for strategic input. The aim therefore is to combine wide range of real skills learnt throughout the year, from leadership, to entrepreneurship, to marketing, to corporate finance etc. "Strategy" therefore covers a large area of skills which are needed within every company and organisation.

why is everyone so obsessed with 'strategy'?! surely there are other, more important, elements of business (and the mbA?)
