Our MBA students attended GMC CEO Forum on 9th Sept, 2011. Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric, presented a topic of “Hong Kong’s Changing Role as Global Economic Power Shifts”.
Ten of our students from Full-time and Part-time classes were inspired by Jack’s intelligent and experience.
Walter (CUHK MBA Part-time Class of 2012) suggested, ‘Jack advised that the best way is for Hong Kong to preserve its innovative edge and maintain its role as a global city. He also mentioned all companies should strive for quality by working with quality people and companies. In business, it is all about passion. People shall be passionate about people, passionate about ideas and passionate about helping people to grow. In return, those people would be highly profitable to the CEO and the company.’
Anne Yeung, part time student of CUHK MBA also a business own of a Small and Medium sized enterprise (Part-time Class of 2013), inspired by Jack Welch’s words mentioning the importance of passion in what you do, ‘ Love what you do, then job doesn’t exist”. She added ‘it’s also interesting to learn his words about the relationship between “Entrepreneurs” & “Businessmen”, “A good businessman must be a good entrepreneur, while a good entrepreneur is not equal to a good businessman”.’
Kelvin Chiu, a Canadian Full-time student argued that ‘Passion is the one word that can be used to summarize Mr. Jack Welsh’s advice on success in business. Mr. Welsh’s reminded the audience to never lose their thirst for success. Always be paranoid about tomorrow, those who can anticipate change and act on it will be the triumphant ones.’
