The George Washington School of Business (GWSB) Global MBA program was recognized for innovation in international education by the Institute of International Education’s 10th IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards. GWSB’s Global MBA program was highlighted for its International Residency Program, which requires all full-time MBA students to work abroad on consulting projects and develop global management skills.
“Through opportunities such as our international residencies, GW School of Business students are engaging the world. We teach our students to act responsibly, lead passionately and think globally,” said Doug Guthrie, Dean of The George Washington University School of Business.
GWSB students in the Global MBA program participate in a two-week in-country residency, preceded by seven weeks of faculty-mentored academic preparation, where they work directly as business consultants for partner organizations. Students then present their business plans and final recommendations to the organizations. To date, more than 300 students have completed projects in 10 countries across 5 continents. In 2010, students completed residencies in Mumbai, India; Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City, Mexico; Belgrade, Serbia; and Malmö, Sweden.

“For our students to lead in the global business environment, they must gain real-world international experience through programs such as our international residencies, which prepare them for the worldwide economy of the 21st century,” said Murat Tarimcilar, vice dean of programs and education.
The IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards honor the most outstanding initiatives in international higher education among IIE’s membership association of more than 1,000 higher education institutions. The GWSB Global MBA program received an honorable mention in the category of Internationalizing the Campus: Business Education. IIE will present the awards at a March 18 ceremony in New York City.
