We have over a hundred thousand MBA courses around the globe but majority of these courses are populist courses imparting management educaion in areas and sectors like Finance, Marketing, Information Technology etc. Well though these areas serve as pillars of any industry,  with the new Age where Customer is the king and there is a lot of stress on people activitiies like Sports, Entertainment etc such Niche industries are growing at a rate faster than ever before.

Such Industries thrive on flow of efficient and fast creative ideas, regular change in startegies, effective Man-Management, Media and Brand Managament, Publicity. These aspects are very specific to these industries and should be looked into separately from the rest due to the dynamic nature of these industries. However if one looks at the brochures of any Top MBA programme he would hardly find anythng like a Sports management course or Media and Entertainment management, Footwear and Dress Design management, Electronics Management and the likes.

In today's age where the sports leagues, Movies and TV shows, and Fashion Industry  are turning out to be a Multi-billion dollar affair having their followers round the globe it becomes imperative industry gets guys who are not only having a flair to work in these areas but a managerial bent of mind keeping day-to-day affairs of these areas in mind. Just like a sportsperson should have the passion and natural flair to take up any sport, such niche industries can do very well if people who are managing them also have the passion to work in this field and not just simply because they want to gain exposure of different industry or grab a fat-package!!!.

Nice article, this is exactly my situation as I'm doing a B.A.C. on Advertising and plan to do a MBA to see if I can open my own Advertising Agency, so I'm mixing business and creativity, that's why I still don't know which type of MBA is the right for me. Perhaps someone here could advice me, please feel free to contact me.

Yes good point - I've heard of several business schools offering courses, or specialities in 'sports' and 'entertainment' - e.g. the Wharton sports business initiative http://wsb.wharton.upenn.edu/faq.htmor the The Film, Media, and Entertainment Centre at Cass business school http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/fme/index.html. And check out this recent story about a Cass MBA who combined his business degree with film: http://www.businessbecause.com/mba-entrepreneurs/move-over-hollywood-here-comes-digiwood.htm
