Studying for the GMAT exam is serious business, but it should also be convenient and fun, too. Recently, the Graduate Management Admission Council, owners of the standardized test used by graduate management programs around the world, unveiled in the iTunes store the “Official GMAT” mobile app for iPhone, iPod, and iPad.

In addition to actual questions from past GMAT exams, the “Official GMAT” mobile app injects an online gaming feature into GMAT test preparation, allowing prospective test takers to answer questions and see how they measure up against others using the app.

“No other app gives you access to retired questions from the GMAT exam as well as a fun way to keep your skills sharp and connect with others who are getting ready for the exam,” said Peg Jobst, executive vice president of the GMAT division at GMAC. “The Official GMAT app also opens doors to an array of tools and services that can help you not only prepare for the exam but also get ready for business school.”

Aside from adding the game element to test prep, the mobile app version of the best-selling Official Guide to GMAT Review book series includes serious features to help test takers get ready for the exam, including a question timer to practice keeping pace, a performance tracking center to chart improvement on each mini-exam, and full answer explanations for every question. “Exam” and “Practice” modes allow test takers to focus on individual questions and take mini practice exams whenever they want.

Users can also register on mba.com directly from the app, allowing them to compare schools, explore financing options, register for the GMAT exam, and find other prep materials. Those registered to take the exam will also have a “countdown” reminder to their exam date on the front page of the mobile app.

The “Official GMAT” app costs $4.99 for 50 questions, with additional 250 supplemental question packs available for US$9.99. It will be available exclusively through Apple’s iTunes.

I think this will be very helpful for those studying for their GMAT! But it is only restricted to those on iphone and ipad? They should make one for blackberry and other smart phones.
