During the IMD MBA Discovery trek in South Africa

This has been a very interesting and fulfilling year for me at IMD Lausanne. I had started this year with a lot of excitement and anxiety. I was excited about the MBA program, the focus on self development, the famous integrated excercises and most of all about the 89 other peers that I would get to study with and be friends with forever. I was anxious about my career opportunities given the recession and slowdown globally. I had left a lucrative marketing and consulting career to pursue an MBA and I wasnt really sure that from a short term point of view, the career opportunities would work out. However, I put my trust in the IMD career services which had been ranked the best in class by the Wall Street Journal in 2009. So with that trust and belief, I jumped into the IMD MBA!

And what a journey!! The career services at IMD actually made the whole process of finding a job damn easy. The year started with the career services team spending time with me to understand my preferences and work-life priorities. A dedicated career coach helped me figure out different options so that I could start focusing on my job hunt. The IMD alumni network was fantastic. They responded quickly with sharing their experiences and potential opportunities. The on-campus companies were also aggressive in hiring. Overall, it turned out into a dream run!!

I am very excited becasue all my anxieties were only anxieties!! I must say that I managed to beat the recession because , thanks to IMD Career services, I am today facing the tyranny of choices as far as jobs are concerned. All said and done - It was one helluva journey!!

@Kate- I have a background in strategy consulting and consumer marketing, therefore the opportunities I have are in the space of corporate strategy / marketing. As you will understand, I cant divulge the names of the companies on this forum, but nonetheless you can get an idea of the type of companies if you visit the careers section at IMD's home page. I am happy to help you with any other queries you may have!!

"The tyranny of choices" - Ashish we don't hear many b-school students in the same position! Would you mind sharing what types of jobs you've been offered?

IMD is certainly a terrific school and has a great reputation around the world specially in Europe. Thus with a batch size of less than 100 the possibility of a post-MBA career is great.

Students should definitely get a really good feel of what the Career Services department of a school is like. While your MBA experience might be excellent, the ending can be very bitter if Career Services doesn't care about its students.
