Strategy Director

• Scythian advises Ukrainian businessman Dmitri Firtash on his asset portfolio (Group DF – “GDF”)
• Carried out extensive due diligence for the acquisition by Firtash’s GDF of a stake in a Ukrainian oil and gas company.
• Negotiated key term sheet conditions for purchase of a stake in Ukrainian media group to ensure that during non-disclosure of acquisition the economic benefit and voting rights were in control of GDF.
• Responsible for analysis and modeling of Rosukrenergo (Ukrainian gas trading company) financials.

• London subsidiary of Romanian investment group, Reconstruction Capital Plc
• Established New Europe Capital, London subsidiary of Reconstruction Capital; negotiated rental contracts for office premises, organised office move.
• Managed FSA application process, achieved FSA approval for CF21 (Investment Adviser) and CF27 (Investment Management).
• Board Director - Policolor (paints and coatings) and Terapia (pharmaceuticals)
• Policolor: Generated new financial reporting format for management accounts; assisted in developing business plan for tinting machines in car repair shops across Romania and Bulgaria. Prepared automotive financial model.
• Terapia: Principal contact between Terapia and the shareholders’ advisor Rothschild’s during the company’s sale to Advent Intl.; generated financials showing underlying profitability of the company by carving out restructuring costs and one-off expenses.
• Developed and structured Balkan private equity fund Reconstruction Capital II (listed on the AIM)
• Wrote and verified key sections of the AIM admission document, prepared fund marketing material and made presentations to potential investors.
• Generated all IRR schedules and calculations for three existing funds under management.

Porfolio Manager

• Managed over US$100m in eight European emerging stock markets as part of a global emerging markets team managing major mutual funds and pension fund accounts.
• Achievement: Over period of employment outperformed index by 18.5%.
• Performed detailed analysis of major quoted companies in the region as well as macroeconomic and political research to assist in asset allocation.

Fund Manager

• Sept 1995–April 1997: Manager of the $150m Israel Fund plc (investment trust listed on the London Stock Exchange) – responsible for all decisions on equity investments for the fund.
• Wrote reports for annual and interim statements, initiated a monthly Israel Fund newsletter for shareholders, marketed the fund to investors.
• Covered European emerging markets for global emerging markets comingled funds.
