Bio

Shortlisted as a finalist for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Excellence Award 2011 under the category Public Sector.

I sit on the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Higher Education Sectoral Committee and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) HEMIG (Higher Education Members Interest Group). I am also the Editor for the Academy of Marketing Newsletter.

I have recently joined the Worshipful Company of Marketors as a member, this is a real honour.

I have experience in marketing and PR for education bodies, financial services and membership associations, including event management, press and media relations, digital media, copy writing and creation of marketing collateral. I specialise in CRM.

I have presented my MA findings at the British Council Going Global Conference in Hong Kong and more recently the ICHEM (Academy of Marketing) Conference in Cairo.

Just finished the CAM Digital Diploma in Marketing and enrolled for a DBA in 2012.

  • My role involves:
  • Integrated and strategic marketing and communications planning and implementation
  • Representing the ABS on various external committees and speaking at events and conferences globally
  • Press and media management - proactive and reactive press office - act as a spokesperson
  • Digital Marketing - a new website is currently being developed which is Web 2.0 enabled and much more fitting with the brand
  • Working collaboratively with ABS members to promote business and management education as a whole to the wider community
  • Liaising with ABS member schools and their PR staff to develop media bulletins for distribution to journalists, ABS members, government departments and partner organisations
  • Surveying members and present findings, e.g. new intake trends for the ABS conference, social media and salary surveys
  • Maintaining a high level of awareness of PR and media issues relating to business schools and trends in the provision of education in business and management for dissemination to the media
  • Brand and reputation of the ABS via communications and PR
  • I created the Development Programme for Marketers and managed to achieve accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Marketing
  • Working closely with members, spot talent for events and share good practice and feedback.
  • Main achievements in the last year:
  • Creating the new ABS UK Business and Management Alumni Network, representing over 1/2 million professionals
  • I am presenting my CRM paper at the Going Global Conference in Hong Kong and see this as a valuable networking opportunity.
  • I will also be presenting at the ICHEM Conference in Cairo for the Academy of Marketing.
  • I have been asked to present my research at the CASE conference later in the year.
  • In the past year I have become Chartered, passed my MA with distinction and enrolled on the digital marketing course with CAM, I would like to extend my MA internationally towards a DBA.

Learning and Skills Council London
  • The Learning and Skills Council is a non-departmental government body with responsibility for planning and funding high-quality vocational education and
  • training for everyone.
  • The LSC is a co-financer for European Social Funding (ESF) and as such manages over 200 separate projects for which I am responsible (ensuring the providers' meet their PR and marketing contractual requirements as set out under the EU).
  • My job involved:
  • Developing PR and marketing plans, including timetables of events and tactics
  • Liasing with external agencies for development of marketing literature
  • Providing articles/copy for various stakeholders (including national and local press, trade press and other ESF publications)
  • Arranging visits to projects by MPs/celebrities (including Linda Barker, Joanna Lumley, Lord Mayor of Westminster , Harriet Harman MP, Jon Snow and many more). Also high profile events at the QEII Conference Centre, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Treasury and Mansion House.
  • Production of case studies (including a glossy 28 page ESF brochure which was recommended to be used as a model for others by the DfES)
  • Editor for the London Central ESF Newsletter (distributed to over 2000 people)
  • Production of annual plan of events and event management
  • Press and media relations (I have had copy and features printed in the Evening Standard, Personnel Today, mentions on Choice FM and many stories in the borough press - cuttings available upon request)
  • I have sat on the national ESF branding committee and lead on this topic
  • I have represented and spoken at various events for the LSC

Marketing Executive

Skills Council for Financial Services
  • The Financial Services NTO dealt with all aspects of education, training and development as it affected the Financial Services Sector as a whole. This includes Banking, Building Societies, Insurance, Bancassurance, Life and General business, Investments, Securities, Loss adjusting, Actuarial, Risk Management, Pensions Management, Client Management, Fund Management, Stock and other Exchanges.
  • Developing leaflets/fliers and other marketing tools for NTO products, from concept to print.
  • Updating and maintaining the website (I helped the company get into the e-commerce market.)
  • Event managementof the Financial Services NTO Annual Conference, in terms of speakers, sponsorship, and venue and event management (including events at the Lord Mayors private residence).
  • Liaising with the Press regarding advertisements and events/issuing press releases on behalf of the company.
  • Board Minutes and am responsible for sending out a fortnightly e-brief to members of the company containing regulatory and industry information.
  • Database maintenance and interrogation and general administration including mail shots.
  • Maintaining relationships with the Trade Bodies, Institutes and Associations within the industry.
  • Events and PR, including press relations and promotions.
  • I reported directly to the Chief Executive.
  • I was also responsible for generating funding through membership of the company.
  • I also generated money for the company via selling exhibition spaces at our conferences, advertising and also promoting and selling membership of the company throughout the industry.

Chartered Insurance Institute
  • Working in the press office - press and media management - managing a proactive and reactive press office
  • Secretarial/administrative assistant performing general office duties, after about a year I was promoted to the position of Careers and Development Assistant; my role included creating of marketing literature, attending national employer workshops throughout the UK to promote the products and services of the NTO.
  • Providing careers advice to members and non-members of the Institute.
  • My main duties included provided careers information by telephone and mail to current and potential members of the financial services industry.
  • I attended national careers exhibition throughout the UK, providing careers advice to a wide range of people. I was also responsible for liaising with the network of local institutes to provide support for regional events and roadshows.
  • I was also responsible for maintaining the Netsearch scheme (an employment service) for employers and members, and providing a secretariat for the Careers Advisory Group of the CII.
  • I had responsibility for monitoring the budget in terms of booking advertisements, exhibitions, travel etc.
  • I also maintained the database.
  • After working in the Careers department I got internally promoted to the Marketing Department (Communications Assistant) where I was responsible for looking after a team of four education advisors in terms of their database, arranging diaries, meeting report sheets and mail shots etc.
  • I worked under the PR Manager and was responsible for approaching employers for sponsorship for the CII Annual Conference, looking after the exhibitors, attending conferences and roadshows to represent the CII.
