The world’s largest tyre manufacturer is sponsoring a number of programs at Grenoble Graduate School of Business (GGSB). The existing partnership has already resulted in several hires of GGSB graduates by Michelin.
Michelin is particularly involved in GGSB’s MSc Business Development. Students on the program benefit from intensive training – live business cases – delivered by Michelin throughout the year. Two students were hired by Michelin following the training last year (Pricing and Marketing Intelligence Manager in Michelin Sweden and Account Manager in Michelin UK).
Every year, the training results in field work on Michelin’s business development in the BRIC countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China. In 2010, students examined cases in India and this year students went to China to study similar.
During their course of study, students also examine the cultural and managerial differences, as well as the best negotiation techniques in each country. They arrive with the aim of offering concrete proposals for the development of Michelin’s activities in the country in question – proposals that will then be detailed in their end-of-program thesis and viva.
Students examined two cases this year:
• In order to build a robust geographical Michelin footprint in China, what would be your strategy?
• How can Michelin become an eco-friendly industrial company in China?
The compulsory Chinese Residency took place from the 28th February to the 6th March 2010 in Shanghai and Beijing. The class of 35 students also had the opportunity to visit several businesses, attend lectures on Chinese business culture and of course they were welcomed at Michelin China in Shanghai.
GGSB’s Msc Business Development is one of the top three such programs in France, according to business magazine Moniteur du Commerce International
