This Australian MBA Has Just Launched An App To Revolutionize The Way Businesses Advertise

Hamilton Kings started his online concierge service after an MBA at Sydney’s Australian Graduate School of Management

Hamilton Kings, who recently completed an MBA at Sydney’s Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), has just launched a new app to revolutionize the way businesses advertise.

Dubbed ‘a pocket concierge,’ Get It Sorted connects Sydney-based consumers with the service providers—hairdressers, plumbers, cleaners, or florists—able to deliver to their needs.

The app is free to use—businesses only pay for listing if they get business. Users are matched on-demand with up to four suppliers who can do the job they want done, when they want it.

Hamilton, who’s managed various hospitality businesses for the past 13 years, came up with the idea for Get It Sorted while running his own catering business, doing online home delivery.

“I was advertising on Google and Facebook, and doing all the right targeting, but when customers called I frequently found I couldn’t supply services when they needed them because I was already booked, or the job was too small, or they were seeking a type of catering we couldn’t provide,” he says. “There was a frustrating amount of waste of both my time and money.”

So, Hamilton started developing his idea for an online concierge service, where providers would avoid wasting advertising money on customers they wouldn’t be able to service. While also running his own communal dining pizza restaurant—Pizza Autentico in Surry Hills, Sydney—he decided to pursue an MBA.

He chose the AGSM MBA because its global reputation—ranked among the top 55 MBA programs in the world by the Financial Times—and its network—AGSM’s 10,000-strong alumni network extends across 68 countries worldwide, and one in five alumni are in VP positions or higher in their organizations.

The school’s strong focus on entrepreneurship, fueled by the wider University of New South Wales’ (UNSW) Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, helped Hamilton build his business.

“I have gained in many different ways from my AGSM experience,” he says. “My ability to think, act, and articulate has developed, and my networks have grown—several members of my cohort are helping me strategically to grow the business.

“For me, cash flow has often been an issue, unable to do everything I have wanted to do due to lack of funds,” he continues. “I am currently looking for funding. And my MBA has taught me to be better prepared, think laterally and use my network more effectively.”

Available on Apple and Android, Hamilton’s app is already in use in Sydney’s inner eastern suburbs of Darlinghurst, Potts Point and Surry Hills.

Hamilton started businesses before his MBA. You don’t need an MBA to start a business or to become an entrepreneur. But, for Hamilton, his MBA experience at AGSM certainly helped.

“An MBA is so valuable for entrepreneurs wanting to grow their business,” he says. “Most entrepreneurs do not have a team on the same level as they are within the business to discuss various options and strategies.

“However, the MBA provides a forum to hear how other entrepreneurs deal with issues, to voice your own issues, and get responses. The learning from other students has been exceptionally valuable.

“Now, looking to future, I have plans to roll out within Australia’s capital cities over the next twelve months. Then, I intend to expand internationally.”
