Project Manager

Acision , United Kingdom
  • Created a project team of 22 engineers, spread across three international sites. Utilised negotiation and influencing skills, resulting in successful resource and stakeholder management.
  • Led and completed a multi-site, cross-functional, partly off-shore $1.250,000 software project – on Acision messaging gateway - for over six months for AT&T and Sprint (two major operators in the US) under a tight budget and timeline.
  • Created a risk framework using M_O_R(Management of Risk) practises to effectively manage the project and operational risks.
  • Deputised R&D manager at director level on local site and had line management responsibilities over 20 staff.
  • Created, documented and rolled out a new company-wide process across three sites for assessing new customer change requests in a timely and accurate manner which also partly addressed the “knowledge management” issues in the R&D.
  • By using both Agile (SCRUM) and conventional (Waterfall – Prince2, PMP) project management techniques and methods, significantly improved the project performance which resulted in an on schedule, under budget delivery to the customer.
  • Continuously captured and analysed data to track the ongoing fault performance of the project towards KPIs, take necessary corrective actions and fed the data to a repository framework on sharepoint as part of knowledge management best practises.
  • Assisted to R&D manager for the overall capacity planning of the R&D organisation
  • Contributed to the strategic direction of the company at program and R&D level by proactively sharing the key project, product and resource issues with product and program managers.
2006 – 2008

Project/Team Leader

Nokia , United Kingdom
  • Managed numerous small and mid-size “user interface” and “multimedia” software projects on Nokia S40 handsets within a matrix team organisation.
  • Held direct line management responsibilities and led three separate development teams in S40 Java group - each comprising between 5-7 engineers- as well as managing projects in a matrix organization structure.
  • Managing internal and external customer requests and expectations, understanding and negotiating the requirements, prioritising team activities based on these outcomes.
  • Implemented an “Agile Project Management” framework – SCRUM - to improve the overall team efficiency, communication and team performance. Used some “Agile” tools such as “Xplanner” and “Scrumworks” to help monitoring the project progress.
  • By using Agile techniques, created a team culture to embrace change and increased responsiveness of the team towards change in the very dynamic mobile industry.
  • By accurate capacity forecasting and planning, increased resource utilization, helped senior management to prioritize and roadmap the change requests in the pipeline
  • Set, monitored and evaluated performance objectives of each team member and held regular one to one feedback sessions to improve productivity and efficiency in the team
  • Recruited software engineers using technical, behavioural and competency based interviewing techniques
