Bio

I continuously look to build and develop my transferable skills through theoretical and practical means.

Spending years studying the art of inductive and deductive communication, I have put my communication skills into practice across both corporate and non corporate environments. Within the corporate world I was an active member of the Fixed Income Communications committee presenting to a global audience on the importance of transparency within the workplace. I have since taken part in similar initiatives. Outside of the workplace I head up Sports and social societies and take part in charity work.

Problem Solving is a skill I constantly look to challenge myself to improve by reviewing both successful and unsuccessful approaches to business processes. This pragmatic approach led me to automate a process, through a self initiated project, which had been manual for over 13 years. A CMS trade is reliant on two long rates - one subtracted by the other (MAX (10y - 2y),0). This trade has a floor element which means that this total cannot go lower than 0. As the rates don't move simultaneously in the same direction the systems couldn't apply the floor element to the final total. Through building dummy curves and Volatility Surfaces for non-live books, I formulated a sole index comprising of the final total (10Y-2Y=sole index). This allows the system to take into account the widening or narrowing of CMS Steepener trades and still apply the floor concept. Previously these trades had to be reset manually on a daily basis.

Knowledge acquired was not only an understanding of the front to back process but how and why the products were traded. Developed heightened problem solving skills in a fast paced environment.
  • Solely automated a process which had been manual for 13 years through a self-initiated project. Building dummy curves and Volatility Surfaces allowed the formulation of a sole index for non-live books - taking into account the widening or narrowing rates of Constant Maturity Swap (CMS) Steepener trades. Previously these trades had to be reset manually on a daily basis. Working with numerous new departments hightened networking and communication skills. This project automated half a head count.
  • Managing the implementation and ongoing progress of the Constant Maturity Swap and Basel III Risk Weighted Assets projects gave daily exposure to senior management. This fine tuned inductive and deductive communication skills.
  • An active member of the Fixed Income Communications Committee (FICC) presenting efficiency findings to a global panel. Additionally an active member of the People Programme Development Committee and occasionally gave speeches for the Retention Panel on internal mobility.
