Bio

In his current position as Innovation Lead at Connected Liverpool, a CIC established to transform Liverpool into a smart city with the use of cutting edge technology, Jordy is at the forefront of the Smart Cities Space.

Interested in mobile technology, big data, non-proprietary systems and software, sensor networks and globalisation, he aims to utilise experiences from Barcelona and Amsterdam to tackle socio-economic and environmental issues in the Liverpool City Region.

Innovation Lead / Head of Innovation

  • Connected Liverpool is a CIC that aims to transform Liverpool into a Smart City with the use of technology.
  • As Innovation Lead, i am responsible for spotting the next technology innovation, ensuring an efficient workflow, raising the profile of this CIC, sales, market research, product development, strategy planning, project leader, online presence (blogs) and networking. I am currently responsible for a team of 5 employees including developers and designers.
  • Some activities i undertook to raise the profile of this CIC:
  • Attended Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February. Connected with Barcelona City Council and its Smart City Team, I am now sharing experiences and knowledge with Barcelona within the Smart City Space.
  • Exhibited Connected Liverpool at InnovateUK 2013 after being recognised as one of the top 20 most innovate companies in the UK by the Technology Strategy Board.
  • Produced a 139-page Strategy report for the LCR to revitalise the city region economy on the areas of Employment – Skills & Entrepreneurship, Health & Wellbeing, Housing and Neighbourhoods, Knowledge Economy, Low Carbon, SuperPort, Transport and the Visitor Economy. Studied all Multi Area Agreement and LEP documents to identify the LCR’s societal problems, developed point-solutions utilising mobile technology, and consulted stakeholders such as City Council, the LEP, Arup, Liverpool Vision, the Universities, the NHS, and the Mayoral Development Cooperation for feedback and collaboration.
  • Spoke at a panel discussion at the Ovum Smart Cities Conference 2012 in the Lancaster Hotel, London, with Don Strickland (ex-Vice President of Apple Computer), Gianni Carbonaro (Head of the Municipal and Regional Unit of the European Investment Bank) and Allan Mayo (Head, Business Services Policy Unit, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) to discuss how technology can make cities smarter and better-connected.
  • Through my participation in the Ovum Smart Cities Conference, the global market analyst Ovum offered to write a 3-page report on Connected Liverpool which it will publish on a global scale. Joe Dignan, Chief Analyst at Ovum, will mention Connected Liverpool as a benchmark in the smart cities space and promote its work freely on next week’s European Commission and TSB conferences which he will attend as the key note speaker.
  • Spoke at the Social Media Café in Liverpool about Open Data and how it could benefit SME’s and strengthen society.
  • Collaborated with the Global Eco Innovation Centre, the University of Liverpool and the University of Leeds to get a full-time PHD student specialised in mobile technology and sensor technology.
  • I collaborate daily with the academic, public and private sectors in Liverpool at CEO level.
  • Additionally, I spoke at the BILETA 2013 conference about data privacy and protection.
