Business Strategic Marketer - Structured Products

Société Générale Corporate and Investment Banking , Italy
  • At SGCIB I was in charge of product development. I worked in close relationship with Engineering, Structuring and Sales team in identifying investment themes and generating structured products ideas. A substantial part of my job was to strategically position the offering within the market context and producing the corresponding marketing material for the Sales team. I was also responsible for developing corporate brochures in relation with the Communication department. I realized for example a brochure presenting all the resources that the Italian platform could offer to clients. On the quantitative side I was in charge of performing historical simulations and performance analysis using complex Excel models for each product we were presenting to clients. A substantial part of my job was also to conduct business reporting, market studies and competition benchmark analysis to understand the big picture of the business and take the appropriate marketing decisions accordingly. For this purpose I maintained databases regarding clients’ requests, products generated, presentations produced and deals done. On the communication side I managed the whole web-based marketing strategy and realized e-mailing campaigns, as well as designed and organized conferences for the most important clients. The structured products business being under harsh scrutiny from regulation authorities, I had to liaise on a daily basis with Compliance and Legal departments in order to operate within company policies and regulations. Through my product development activity I demonstrated strong innovative thinking by constantly trying to offer new investment themes to the Sales force. I developed robust quantitative skills, sharp creative thinking as well as acute analytical sense when it comes to market trends and competitors strategic moves. I learnt how to understand the big picture of an industry and to think strategically by anticipating new developments in the market. In addition, I acquired solid communication skills and the capacity to coordinate resources towards the achievement of a single project by working with numerous stakeholders both internally and externally. Being involved in a lot of activities simultaneously, I learnt how to multi-task efficiently and deliver results under tight deadlines. The touchy nature of marketing structured products helped me develop solid negotiation skills - mostly liaising with Compliance officers - as well as a strong capacity to operate within company rules. In addition, I developed high proficiency with IT tools and demonstrated a strong aesthetic awareness that enabled me to reshape the existing layouts and become the main reference for graphic creation.
2007 – 2008

Debt Capital Markets Origination

Bank of America , France
  • By monitoring global bond markets on behalf of corporate clients I developed strong analytical and synthesis skills. On a macro level I learnt how to understand the big picture of financial markets, identify the relevant parameters for each client and analyze their evolution. On a micro level I learnt how to identify clients’ debt situation through a sound analysis of their balance sheet and linking it with financing opportunities within the markets. Being in constant conversation with them, I acquired strong listening competencies as well as solid communication skills that allowed me to offer them relevant tailor-made solutions. I developed a broad knowledge of bond markets on a global basis as well as a strong understanding of the various debt instruments a company can use to finance itself. In addition, I demonstrated proactivity, leadership as well as acute commercial sense when developing a weekly newsletter updating clients on the most relevant market evolutions.
2007
(Mar – Aug)

Middle Office

UBS Group , France
  • As a Middle Officer I had to check, on a daily basis, the accuracy of the details regarding any operations traded on the investments funds we had under management. This task was critical in the assessment of the funds performance and profitability calculations I was responsible for. When registration problems occurred on some trade, I was in charge of restoring the initial trade integrity by communicating the right details about the trade to all the stakeholders both internally and externally. Through this experience I developed solid quantitative skills, a careful attention to details as well as a strong focus on delivering results in a very reactive way. Being in charge of controlling execution on trades involving many stakeholders, I acquired significant negotiation competencies and a great capacity to solve problems in a fast and efficient manner.

Trade Marketing

L'OREAL , France
  • My main duty was to design and organize commercial events in Lancôme’s selective retail network. I participated in defining the commercial incentives offered to clients as well as managing the creative and operational dimensions of these events. On the creative side I worked with graphic studios and photographers to develop point of sale display elements. On the operational side I set up training sessions for people operating in store and took charge of product supply before and during the events. I was also responsible for analyzing post-events sales results and producing reporting to my management. Another significant part of my job was to monitor and analyze Lancôme’s markets in order to identify the main strategic moves from the competitors. I conducted qualitative analysis but also gathered data regarding price positioning through on-field studies. Thanks to the information gathered I produced relevant industry and competition analysis in order to understand Lancôme’s position within its markets. On the PR side I organized VIP events for the best-selling store managers of the network. In addition to an extensive knowledge of the skincare, make up and perfume markets, working within Lancôme Trade Marketing department allowed me to develop great autonomy, solid organizational skills as well as the capacity to multi-task with a strong focus on delivering results. I learnt how to think creatively, to cope with pressure and to be pragmatic by organizing commercial events from scratch. Being in charge of industry and competition analysis I built up substantial analytical skills as well as integrated a proactive and detail-focused approach towards work.
