Podcasts are the perfect way of boosting your knowledge on the go. These 10 will help you nail your business school application

As a business school applicant, you're probably looking for any tips and tricks to help you on your way to business school. Well, a podcast can be a great way to keep up to date with the latest business news and broaden your knowledge at the same time.

If you didn't know already (and hopefully you do!), BusinessBecause is launching its very own podcast, and the first episode is out now. With that in mind, we decided to delve into the wider world of business podcasting and find the best ones you should be listening to right now, wherever you are in the application process.

Without further ado, here's our 10 best podcasts for business school applicants:


1. The Business School Question

Of course, our own podcast had to top the list! The Business School Question was created with all you business school applicants in mind and answers the questions that will help you on your journey to business school. 

Every two weeks, we interview a different expert from the business school world and ask them one key admissions question. Are US business schools in crisis? What are the biggest mistakes you can make in your application? All these and more will be answered by big-name experts from the business school world.

In our first episode, Gareth Howells, executive director of MBA and MiF programs at London Business School is in the hot seat, discussing whether an MBA is really worth it—perfect if you're still in the process of deciding what to study.

2. London Business School Distinguished Speakers Series

A series from 2014 that features talks from visiting entrepreneurs and leaders at LBS, this one is worth a listen if you’re interested in getting a high-profile opinion on business.

Episodes specific to the world of MBAs include Sir Richard Branson discussing entrepreneurship, and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on leadership—so these could give you a great start if you're still unsure if the business world is for you.


3. Tropical MBA Podcast

TMBA gets updated every Thursday, so it benefits from being one of the more current biz podcasts out there.

It covers a wide range of topics within entrepreneurship, such as how to build your business, hire people, and put on a winning presentation. Episodes also include interviews with business and entrepreneurship writers and explanations of future technology including blockchain and cryptocurrency—perfect if you want to brush up on your knowledge before embarking on your degree.


4. BizChix Podcast: Women Entrepreneurs

A podcast specifically for female business leaders, BizChix offer advice for female entrepreneurs on skills including having a CEO mindset, the challenges of scaling a business, and how to build the best team.

There are also interviews with women who have built successful businesses—worth a listen if you're an applying to business school to kickstart your own business.


5. MBA Podcaster

Though fairly old, the MBA Podcaster is a useful resource for prospective MBAs who are looking for a bit of extra help with their applications.

Each short episode tackles a different stage of the applicant process, including how to boost your GMAT score and how to pick the right program. Be aware that not all the information will still be relevant, but regardless, it’s certainly a good resource, and the short episodes will easily fit into your day.


6. The Touch MBA Admissions Podcast

For anyone looking for in-depth knowledge into the admissions process at the world’s top b-schools, The Touch could be for you.

As well as looking at MBA applicant skills—including the necessary skill of how to interview effectively—the show features expert opinions from a range of business schools, including Cornell Johnson School of Management, Michigan Ross School of Business, and W. P. Carey School of Business.


7. Harvard Business School Cold Call

Cold Call aims to give you a taste of what it’s really like to study on Harvard's legendary MBA program, and will be useful whether HBS is one of your shortlisted schools or not.

Each episode, faculty from the business school discuss a case study they’ve written, and that has been taught on the program at HBS. As well as providing you with insights into the program and faculty at one of the world’s best business schools, it’ll also introduce you topics as varied as unicorn companies in the Middle East and the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

Featuring diverse business ventures, this is a good one for applicants looking for the inspiration to start their own business at business school.


10. John Lee Dumas Entrepreneurs On Fire

Aiming to ‘spark’ winning business ideas in listeners, Entrepreneurs On Fire features interviews with business leaders who have made it big in their respective fields.
