What sort of profile does a top business school like MIP Politecnico di Milano usually look for in their master's degree students?

Dear BusinessBecause,

I am an IT engineer in the luxury sector, originally from India, and would like to some advice about being admitted to one of the master's programs offered by MIP.

What does the school look for, and what experience should I highlight to boost my chances of admission?

This week's applicant question was submitted by an anonymous reader hoping to study at MIP Politecnico di Milano.

The Answer

This week's Applicant Question is answered by Anna Bacigalupi, head of admissions for International full-time master's degrees at MIP.

MIP’s master's programs are designed for fresh graduates with less than three years of work experience.

Candidates can apply for these programs starting in September 2020 if they have obtained their bachelor's or master's degree not earlier than 2017.

Candidates who have obtained their bachelor's or master's degree before 2017 can consider our International MBA program, with specializations in Luxury & Design, Big Data & Digital Transformation, or Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

For some master's programs, a specific bachelor's degree and minimum GPA might be required. MIP places a strong emphasis on the overall profile of the candidate.

In addition to fulfilling these general acceptance criteria, candidates must pass a selection interview conducted online or via skype, and submit a detailed cover letter highlighting their achievements.

MIP expects candidates to have an entrepreneurial mindset and a humble attitude.

MIP's candidate wish-list

Candidates are evaluated based on the following parameters:

  • Professional and academic background
  • Hard, soft and digital skills
  • Team management and leadership skills
  • Behavior in groups and teams
  • English language proficiency
  • Personality–strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement
  • Interest in studying in Italy
  • Interest in MIP Politecnico di Milano and its programs
  • Short and long term plans and objectives

To help applicants, MIP offers a personalized service throughout the selection process, too.

A dedicated recruiter helps applicants to organize a personalized info-session over skype, phone, or in person to guide them on the programs suitable for their profiles, application procedures and scholarship opportunities.

Master in FinTech

Mip is a very organised school, the program of the Fintech master is really interesting and covers a lot of useful fields. I believe the Carrer Development Center and the network of companies the school has is one of the best features of this master. Suggested if u are interested in finance technologies and the interaction between them.

Gamechanger

MIP Politecnico di Milano was totally a gamechanger for me, I learned a lot and the exposure I got while studying here was unlimited. This university is very flexible and student friendly, the professors are highly qualified and are devoted to their work. The best part about this university is that if you have free time in your course, you can sit for other courses as well of your choices, being a civil engineer I always had affinity towards design, as I got a weeks off from my course I used to attend design lectures with other batches. This was really helpful to me.
