AGSM Australian School of Business alumni have been busy so far in 2013 connecting with each other and the broader community. The AGSM Global Business Network just launched this year, facilitating alumni meetings all over the globe, and service-oriented Young Alumni Angels launched in April as well!

Alison Avery, senior manager of AGSM Brand and Communication, said the AGSM Global Business Network wasn’t launched by any single alum, but rather was started as a response to feedback from AGSM alums looking for more ways to stay involved with the school.

“The AGSM Global Business Network truly brings to life the mission of the school to create and disseminate business knowledge for the benefit of students, organisations and society,” Avery said. “It not only has a social agenda but is a way for alumni to be exposed to new ideas and insights and a high-level of interaction with colleagues.”

So far this year, the Global Business Network has arranged meetings with new Dean of the ASB Professor Geoffrey Garrett and Director of AGSM Professor Chris Styles, to celebrate the success of AGSM over the last 35 years.

Meanwhile the ASB Young Alumni Committee (which connects alums under the age of 30) and the other young alumni of AGSM have been reaching out to the community through the Young Alumni Angels. AGSM alums Dush Sharma, Eugune Kwek and Michael Zhou helped to get the Angels off the ground with three events over the past two months, helping organizations such as Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation, Babana Aboriginal Men's Group and Youth off the Streets.

“Young Alumni Angels is a by-product of the 'Gen Y' social conscience: simply donating money to a worthwhile cause or organisation is not meaningful enough,” Sharma said. “Similarly, many young alumni don't have the capacity to make financial contributions as yet, although they are more than willing to be generous with the volunteering of their time. It's more about interacting with the community organisation, meeting the people you are helping, understanding their story and establishing relationships.”
