This is a process that begins long before students walk through the doors at Hult.
Before the program candidates can enrol on the pre-arrival career development program that offers long-term career planning tips, information on employment trends, and industry insights.
Once they arrive, Peter explains that the program immerses students in the real business world as teams address business challenges and help companies solve real-time issues.
In the past, students have worked on coursework projects with companies like Disney, Intel, and Unilever. “The corporate projects help connect students with the corporate world and this in itself creates possible opportunities with certain companies,” Peter adds.
“We develop future business leaders,” he continues. “They come to us having hit a ceiling and, through the coursework projects as part of the career development scheme, we help identify what the barriers have been, how to unlock them, and how to take their career to the next step.”
Taking place over four-day weekends every or every-other-month, the Global EMBA is intrinsically linked to career development—99% of Hult International Business School graduates change country, industry, or function.
As well as the core business knowledge taught on accounting, financial management, and international marketing modules, a leadership development program runs continuously throughout both years of the Global EMBA.
This trains students to lead through innovation, in a global marketplace, whilst developing personal and professional leadership traits to succeed in the post-graduate business world.
One such student, Stephane Akame Zeh, spent 16 years with oil and gas service company, Schlumberger, before he embarked on the program.
“I was the director of operations for West Africa,” he recalls. “I left because of the oil crisis—they merged the four or five regions in Africa down to just two.”
Faced with a choice between taking a lower position, or augmenting his skillset with an Executive MBA, Stephane chose the latter. He chose Hult International Business School, he explains, because of the flexibility the course offered around full-time work, as well as the expert career development support.
“After 16 years in the same industry I knew I would need something more to climb the ladder and change career,” he says.
