Among the MBA cohorts of top business schools in India, you can find a wealth of ambitious professionals aiming to secure roles across a broad range of sectors.

Leaning on the mixture of new knowledge, skills, connections, and experiences they gain during their studies, many students go on to achieve those aims.

Recognizing the value that an MBA graduate with a holistic business acumen can bring to their companies, large numbers of prestigious employers hire from top MBA cohorts in India each year.

For example, at Alliance University in Karnataka State, where all students undertake a internship that sees them gain vital experience with renowned companies, post-MBA placement destinations range from Big Four accounting and professional services firms to multinational banks. Many students even go on to launch their own ventures after graduation.

So, how exactly does studying an MBA at a top Indian business school prepare you to take the next step in your career?

1. Exposure to top companies

Studying at a top business school in India means opening up a pathway to many of the world’s top companies. Established links between recruiters and MBA career advancement centers can help build your profile and gain a foothold on the career ladder.

For example, during the Industry Internship Program all Alliance University MBA students undertake a field-based assignment with a company during their studies. This extended period with target companies ensures that students are top of mind when it comes to the placement drive.

Likewise, the school’s Office of Career Advancement and Networking has several established partnerships with companies, including the likes of Intel and Toyota, that bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.

Testament to the boost this provides to students’ career prospects: the recruiting partners for the Alliance University MBA include Fortune 500 firms such as Amazon, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, and Maersk.

After gaining exposure to these companies, the wealth of knowledge and skills students possess ensures they can go on to make an impact. For example, Madhusudhan Chakravarthi, who graduated from the program in 1999, has risen to the prestigious role of managing director at Accenture.

2. A chance to gain practical expertise

As well as providing links to potential job opportunities, undertaking an internship while studying an MBA also means gaining an insight into the working world that awaits after graduation.

Over a prolonged period of time students who undertake the Alliance University Industry Internship Program can apply the knowledge they’ve developed in class and use this to enhance their expertise.

This mixture of theoretical and practical learning prepares students with a holistic understanding of business they can use to their advantage when they come to graduate and pursue the next step in their careers.

Ram Voleti graduated from the program in 2003, he has since embarked on a finance career that sees him today working as vice president of financial markets at Standard Chartered Bank in Bangalore.

“I was placed during my third semester with a firm called Commodity India where I learned  a lot of fundamentals, both in terms of technical and in terms of market analysis,” he explains.

Ram was able to use this newfound knowledge to secure a series of financial consulting roles after graduating from the Alliance University MBA, before eventually landing a role with UBS, a multinational Swiss bank and the world’s largest wealth manager.

“Being a proud alumni I would recommend this university for any aspiring students and I’m sure the institution would provide all the tools with the practical experience that is required,” he adds.

3. Make valuable connections

Connections with recruiters and hiring managers are invaluable when it comes to taking the next step in your career after graduating from an MBA. However the typical MBA student completes their studies with a network that comprises a wide variety of connections who can impact their career as they develop.

For Srividya Krishnan, who graduated from the Alliance University MBA in 2014 and has since embarked on a career with a number of prestigious firms, building connections with her classmates had a profound impact on her personal and professional development.

“The lifelong relationships that you make with people and the networking that you can do with people—I think those experiences are more worthwhile than just classroom studies,” she says.

“You really meet a lot of people who don’t necessarily think like you but also think like you on a fundamental level, and what that essentially does for you is it gives you a lot of confidence about your own self and how you can deal with situations.”

Srividya was able to use this enhanced confidence, as well as a successful internship period with multinational consumer goods firm Nestle, to take the next steps in her career after graduation.

She spent several years working for CBRE Group, the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, before landing a role with PwC India in 2021 where she now works as an associate director.

“There is nothing that can come close to learning and experiences,” she adds. “You have a great time and definitely you look back fondly on these memories.”

A tried and tested path that helps graduates launch into exciting roles each year, enrolling in an MBA with a top business school in India can provide you with the tools to take the next step in your career.

Whether you’re aiming to embark on a career in consulting, finance, technology, or even launch your own company, programs such as the Alliance University MBA provide you with a wide variety of career opportunities while also preparing you to make an impact after arriving in the workplace.
