Online MBA programs are more affordable and flexible than their full-time counterparts, which has become even more important over the last couple of years. According to GMAC, almost half of online programs reported growth in applications in 2021.
In this context, Tel Aviv University’s Coller School of Management launched its new Online MBA, taking a technology-focused, multi-disciplinary approach to business education.
While the program is delivered 100%-online, students also have the chance to immerse themselves into Tel Aviv’s thriving tech startup scene via an optional 1.5 week residency at the university.
During this time, Online MBA students get first-hand experiences with Israeli startups and meet their professors for in-person learning.
Online MBA opens doors to Tel Aviv’s tech ecosystem
Dr. Shai Harel, academic director of the Tel Aviv Online MBA, says the program helps students build an entrepreneurial mindset.
Pitchbook ranks Tel Aviv University eighth globally and first outside the US for its strength in entrepreneurship and track record in producing successful entrepreneurs.
During the activity-focused online MBA, students analyze business cases and apply frameworks and theoretical models to real business situations. By working in groups to solve problems and by working on a project to design a business solution and lead it to implementation, students are trained in innovative thinking.
“We wish to provide our students with knowledge on how to become thinkers, problem solvers and insight creators,” Shai says.
Tel Aviv is one of the most vibrant technology hubs in the world and ranks seventh in the Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking.
In 2020, there was a 25% increase in the amount of capital raised in the city, which subsequently doubled the number of Tel Aviv-based unicorns—startups valued at over $1 billion.
Tel Aviv has the world’s highest ratio of startups to residents and hosts major tech corporations like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook.
“In a fast-moving, ever-changing world, one must learn how to adapt. Our MBA program broadens students’ opportunities to do so,” adds Shai.
Tel Aviv Online MBA focuses on Technology & Innovation
As well as a general MBA pathway—including courses in economics, management, finance, and data science—Tel Aviv Online MBA students can pursue specialized tracks in technology and marketing.
The Management of Technology and Information pathway is aimed at students who want to explore cybersecurity, UX design, text mining, and data visualization, while Marketing Management in a Digital World is designed for marketing professionals.
Students on the marketing track deepen their knowledge with courses in brand management, marketing communication, and pricing strategy, among other areas.
Online MBA students on the general MBA pathway can also choose electives from both specializations throughout their degree.
Many Tel Aviv Online MBA students are most interested in innovation and entrepreneurship. Tel Aviv University was also ranked fifth globally for entrepreneurship last year by Startup Genome; only Stanford University, MIT, the University of California Berkeley and Harvard University ranked higher.
Tel Aviv University offers a flexible Online MBA experience
Tel Aviv University’s Coller School of Management is also the first business school in Israel to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), putting it among the top 9% of schools globally.
To make the experience of studying online comparable to that of an in-person MBA, students on the Tel Aviv Online MBA study as a cohort. This means they can build strong connections with their classmates and take advantage of networking opportunities.
The fully Online MBA program has a student-faculty ratio of 25:1 and students receive one-to-one support from an academic advisor throughout their program.
Although most students complete the degree in two years, there’s an option to continue for up to five years. This, Shai says, offers the additional flexibility that busy working students need to take their careers to the next level.
“By combining theory and hands-on experience, we aim to make a significant change to our students’ professional lives."
