What Four Cass Business School MBAs Have To Say About Studying In London

UK capital proves popular among international students

Cass Business School sits in the heart of London, straddling the City, the UK capital’s financial center, and Silicon Roundabout, London’s answer to San Francisco’s Bay Area.

BB spoke to four MBAs past and present on what makes Cass — and it’s location — unique.

Conor McVeigh, class of 2014, business consultant at Mansion House Consulting

There are some very good business schools in Ireland, continental Europe and of course, the States, but I decided that if I was going to invest in an MBA I should pursue it London — one of the world’s global cities.

Cass stood out as being connected to the economic heartbeat of the City. By virtue of its location, you live and breathe the City every day.

At the week-long inaugural Cass London Symposium we got to rub shoulders with some very high calibre people, including the Chairman of Tesco, the technical brains behind CGI movie hit Gravity, a former Lord Mayor of London, and Dame Tessa Jowell, to name a few.

Our location and network also facilitated site visits to Blackrock, Wimbledon Tennis Club, the Bank of England, and Wembley Stadium.

Kandhasamy Muthu, class of 2015, entrepreneur and co-founder of Indian e-commerce site auraas.com

Cass has a strong finance curriculum and an equally talented finance faculty. Though my career goal isn’t finance oriented, a good understanding of finance is essential for any business leader.

There are also excellent opportunities available for MBA candidates with entrepreneurial ambitions. For instance, the Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship provides development programs for budding entrepreneurs. The centre has £10 million worth funds to support ventures. Cass also sponsors entrepreneurs for visas for a year after completion of the MBA, if the administration believes in the business plan.

And the careers team at Cass works hard to help students realise their career goals. They bring in experts. And each student gets a free, five-hour career consultation over the course of four months to fine-tune their ambitions.

Rengga Susilo, class of 2015, former retail banking and wealth management platform manager, ANZ

Choosing the right school is critical in order for each individual to gain the most from the MBA, which is a huge investment.

Cass Business School provides a compact one-year MBA program. Moreover, Cass provides one of the best MBAs in the UK, which is located in a mecca of financial and international businesses, London. With the network that I will gain from the MBA, it will provide me with a huge career advantage.

The program itself also stood out for me, with the combination of practical case studies, workshops, overseas projects, and international electives.

Roberto Venegas, class of 2016, former asset and portfolio manager, Forever Investment

I have the opportunity to talk to people who work in one of the most important economic and cultural hubs in the world, London, which has given me an integrated understanding of each firm and industry.

I have valued the school as a whole: classes are integrative and fast-paced, but also very practical. Every end-of-term we have to incorporate theory from three classes into a week-long project. This leads us to not only use our course knowledge, but also to learn from the different backgrounds, nationalities, and experiences of our group members.

I value my cohort and all the extra-curricular activities that the school has offered us. I praise that my cohort at Cass is relatively small compared to other business schools (73 students), so after a couple of weeks, we all know each other. Besides the quality of the cohort, the chance to learn from them is impossible to quantify.
