Following closely behind is IIM Bangalore, securing the second rank, while IIM Kozhikode has obtained the third position in the esteemed NIRF ranking for management institutes in India. These institutes have consistently demonstrated their excellence in management education and have once again affirmed their prominence in the field.
In the NIRF ranking 2023 for management institutes, there have been some notable shifts (see table below). The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta or IIM Calcutta has moved to the fourth position this year, dropping slightly from third last year. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has retained its fifth spot in the management category. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow or IIM Lucknow has kept its sixth position. The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NIIE), Mumbai has secured the seventh place (up from ninth in 2022). IIM Indore has moved to the eighth position.
Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Jamshedpur, has moved to the ninth spot. Lastly, IIT Bombay has replaced IIT Madras at the tenth position.
It is indeed notable that three engineering colleges have made it to the top 10 list in the NIRF rankings. This year, two new entries have emerged in the top rankings: NITIE, Mumbai at the seventh position and IIT Bombay at the tenth position.
Professor Bharat Bhasker, the director of IIM Ahmedabad, expressed his joy at being recognized as the top management institute in India by the NIRF 2023 rankings.

In the 2022 NIRF management ranking, IIM Ahmedabad secured the first position, followed by IIM Bangalore in second place and IIM Calcutta in third. Last year, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) ranked fourth, making it the only IIT to feature in the top five institutions. IIT Delhi has seen some movement in its ranking in recent years. In 2021 it was ranked fifth, and in 2020, it was ranked eighth.
The ranking methodology of NIRF takes into account various parameters, including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and peer perception. These criteria help assess the overall performance and quality of management institutes in India.
