Diego Ramos Marcos is a Sao Paulo-based specialist with Wave, a McKinsey Solution that supports transformation and change programs by tracking progress and measuring impact. He primarily supports clients in Latin America. Diego joined McKinsey with about 15 years of experience in IT in roles ranging from application engineer to project manager/coordinator. He has a bachelor’s degree in control and automation engineering and a MBA in IT strategic management from FGV.
Why did you apply to McKinsey?
When I read about the role and discovered the incredible work McKinsey is doing through McKinsey Solutions, I had to apply. I couldn’t believe it when I received a call from a recruiter who told me my application had been accepted and asked me questions to better understand my professional background and my passions. I was impressed by this conversation because the recruiter provided me with subtle feedback on the spot that made me feel comfortable and confident I was making the right choice.
Why did you join MSO specifically?
I was aware of McKinsey and its distinguished reputation, but I couldn’t picture myself as a traditional consultant. Once I discovered more about McKinsey Solutions – how dynamic the work is and the great value WAVE presents – I decided this role was the perfect fit.
What keeps you here?
The variety – every day is different. It’s very difficult to get bored and I see infinite opportunities to learn, which excites me. As the director for my region shared during one of our new hire orientation programs: “McKinsey is like a dynamic amusement park. You cannot explore everything in one day.” That’s what makes me wake up smiling every day.
What advice would you give to others considering joining McKinsey?
Stay focused and believe in yourself. McKinsey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Beaches and surfing. Nothing helps me recharge like a day in the sea.
